Arizona All Volvo Day, March 8th, 2008
We had a great show this year. The weather couldn’t have been better. It was cloudy and was threatening rain early in the day, but it cleared up and was perfect, sunny with a light breeze the rest of the day. We had a new location at the Checker Auto Parts store at 7th Street and Bethany Home Road. Easy access, free parking and greater visibility from the street. We had roughly 30 cars showing through the day with about 20 entered in the car show judging and the rest participating the new Presentation Class (non-judged). In addition to our usual raffle we held our first Silent Auction for some of the donated items that were for a specific model of Volvo. This went very well and we hope to make this a regular part of the All Volvo Day show. A few folks employed with the Volvo Proving Grounds joined us bringing a pair of fine 850’s and a European-spec 4 cylinder C-30. Welcome to some of our newest members: Larry and Carolyn Macal (1800), Jason Floor (2007 S40), C.G. & Lorraine A. Smith, John & Linda Youkey (1957 444, 1963 122 S, 1972 P1800 E), Gregg Anderson (’64 P1800 S), Patrick Neary (1982 245 DL, 1994 855), Milan Zlojutro (P 1800). We had several new members bring their cars to the show. (Please let me know if I left anyone out). Car show winners were: 444/544: Art Bilbaeno’s ’61 544 P 1800 S/E/ES: First: Brian Woodbury’s ’72 P 1800 E; Second, Larry Macal’s ’73 1800 ES; Third: Jay Norton’s P 1800 240/260: First: Bob Jones’ ’77 242; Second: John Pfingstag’s ’84 244 GLTi 850: First: Dino Areostatico’s 850; Second: David Mundstedt’s 850 wagon S/V/XC/C70: Marvin Bellfueille’s XC 70 S40: Jason Floor’s ’07 S40 sedan Highest Mileage: Gerry Hill’s ’66 P 1800 S with over a million miles.
